How reliable are the tests?

Taking a sample is very easy. With our interactive guide and test kit, you have everything you need to collect a sample from home. If you have any problems, our support team is ready to guide you through the process.

How to take a sample?

After your samples have arrived at our laboratory, you will receive your results within 48 hours at the latest. From ordering to receiving the results, the entire process usually takes a total of 4 working days.

How quickly will i receive my result?

Your data is stored on servers in Germany and the highest encryption standards are used to protect your data.

How are my anonymity and data protected?


The hormone values should be taken on the 2nd-5th day of the cycle, as the hormone levels, especially of FSH, LH and oestradiol, are most stable in this early phase of the cycle. This enables an accurate assessment of the hormone status and provides meaningful results about the hormonal situation before the cycle enters the next phase.
If you no longer have periods or it has been >3 months since your last period or you are using hormone replacement therapy (HRT), you can carry out the test at any time.




You can carry out the test on any day of your cycle or without a cycle.




This test is best carried out on the 6th-7th day after ovulation. You have the following options:
Use of an ovulation test (LH test): Blood sample 6-7 days after the positive test
Use of a Natural Family Planning (NFP) method: Blood sample 6-7 days after the day of the 1st higher temperature measurement.
Nothing of the sort: Blood collection on the 20th-21st day of the cycle




The AMH value should ideally be determined in the first cycle phase, i.e. between the 1st and 12th day of the cycle. In principle, however, you can take the blood sample at any time. Please note the cycle day on the sample. If you no longer have a period or your last period was >3 months ago, you can take the test at any time.




Important note: The 1st day of your cycle is the first day of your period. If you notice premenstrual spotting (“pre-lubrication”), this does not count as the start of bleeding. This is determined with the onset of heavy menstrual bleeding.

On which cycle day do I take the sample?

It is possible to carry out a hormone test in the blood while taking hormonal contraceptives, but the results may be falsified. Hormonal contraceptives influence the natural hormone balance, so the test may not reflect the actual hormone status. Nevertheless, the results can be helpful to better classify symptoms.

Can I also take the test if I am using hormonal contraceptives?

Luteinizing hormone (LH) is an essential hormone in the human body that plays an important role in the reproductive system. It is released by the pituitary gland and is responsible for controlling sexual and reproductive processes.

In women, LH is of crucial importance for the menstrual cycle and fertility. It regulates ovulation, i.e. the release of an egg from the ovary. If the follicle is large enough and contains a mature egg, a sudden increase in LH levels - the so-called “LH peak” - leads to ovulation. In addition, LH stimulates the formation of the corpus luteum, which produces progesterone after ovulation, a hormone that is necessary to prepare the lining of the uterus for a possible pregnancy. A normal LH level is crucial for fertility in both women and men.

Deviations can indicate various health problems or natural changes in the course of life:




A permanently elevated LH level occurs naturally during the (peri-)menopause. The increased level occurs when the egg reserve in the ovary is coming to an end and remains elevated until the end of life.
An elevated LH level can also indicate polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). With this common hormonal disorder, ovulation often does not occur regularly, which can lead to difficulties in conceiving.




A low LH level can lead to a lack of ovulation (anovulation) and thus to fertility problems. This often occurs in women who are underweight or suffer from eating disorders such as anorexia. Stress, excessive training (in competitive sports or ambitious recreational sports), thyroid problems or the use of hormonal contraceptives can also lead to low LH levels.

Luteinizing hormone (LH)

Oestradiol is the dominant oestrogen hormone and plays a central role in the female reproductive system. It is mainly produced in the ovaries, especially during the reproductive years. Oestradiol regulates the menstrual cycle, can influence the development of the female reproductive organs and promote the formation of breast tissue. It may also be involved in maintaining bone health and skin elasticity. During the menopause, the production of oestradiol can decrease, which can lead to hormonal changes and various symptoms.




Oestradiol levels naturally fluctuate greatly throughout the cycle. High estradiol levels should always be analyzed in conjunction with other symptoms and hormones to determine the exact cause. Possible causes include oestrogen preparations, e.g. in the form of hormone replacement therapy; additional oestradiol produced in fatty tissue in the case of overweight and obesity, insufficient breakdown due to liver dysfunction, thyroid dysfunction or follicular persistence (often in the perimenopause) in which the follicle in the ovaries does not mature properly and release the egg.




Low oestradiol levels can be caused by various factors. It is always important to obtain an overall picture of the patient in order to make a correct assessment. A common cause is menopause, as the ovaries stop functioning and less oestrogen, including oestradiol, is produced. Premature ovarian insufficiency (premature cessation of ovarian function before the age of 40) can also lead to low oestradiol levels. Another cause can be hypothalamic amenorrhea, triggered by stress, underweight or excessive training. Eating disorders and severe chronic illnesses can also disrupt the hormone balance and lower oestradiol levels. In some cases, certain medications, such as GnRH analogs or hormonal contraceptives, can also lead to a drop in oestradiol levels as they suppress hormone production.

Oestradiol (17-ß-estradiol)

Progesterone is a key hormone in the female reproductive system. It is mainly produced in the ovaries during the post-ovulation phase. The main function of progesterone is to prepare the lining of the uterus for a possible pregnancy and to maintain it during a successful pregnancy. It inhibits ovulation and supports the development of a stable environment for the fertilized egg. Progesterone also affects breast tissue and plays a role in various aspects of women's reproductive health.




In the natural cycle, progesterone only rises after ovulation has taken place. A sufficiently high level indicates a stable luteal phase. Cysts on the ovary can also cause increased progesterone levels. Hormone preparations that are used to support pregnancy or the menstrual cycle can increase progesterone levels.




Low progesterone levels can indicate anovulation (no ovulation), as without ovulation, no corpus luteum is formed to produce progesterone. Luteal phase insufficiency, in which the progesterone level does not rise sufficiently after ovulation, can also affect the development of the uterine lining and a potential pregnancy. Hormonal disorders such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) can also lead to an imbalance and lower progesterone levels. Progesterone levels also fall sharply during the menopause, as the ovaries cease to function. Furthermore, medication that suppresses ovulation or the body's own hormone production can lead to a drop in progesterone levels.

Progesterone

Although testosterone is often considered a “typically male” hormone, it is also present in women, albeit in much smaller amounts. Produced in the ovaries and adrenal glands, testosterone can play an important role in maintaining sexual function, energy, muscle mass and bone health in women. Balanced testosterone levels can be crucial for women's sexual desire, mood and overall well-being.




One of the most common causes is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a hormonal disorder in which the ovaries produce increased levels of male hormones such as testosterone. PCOS often leads to irregular cycles, acne, increased hair growth (hirsutism) and fertility problems. Androgen-producing tumors, such as tumors of the ovaries or adrenal cortex, can also lead to an increase in testosterone. Another reason for increased testosterone levels can be the use of anabolic steroids or other androgenic drugs, which are often used in sport to increase muscle mass. Cushing's syndrome, in which the body produces too much cortisol, can also indirectly increase testosterone levels as the hormonal control circuits are disrupted. In addition, being overweight or obese can affect hormone balance, as adipose tissue is hormonally active and can disrupt the metabolism of androgens. Insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes are also linked to increased testosterone levels as they affect hormonal metabolism. Finally, thyroid problems or hormonal imbalances caused by other endocrinological disorders can also lead to elevated testosterone levels in women.




Age plays a decisive role in low testosterone levels, as testosterone levels in women, similar to men, decrease with increasing age. Especially during and after the menopause, testosterone levels drop significantly, which is often accompanied by a decline in general hormone production. Autoimmune diseases or extreme stress can also disrupt the hormonal balance and lower testosterone levels. In addition, taking oral contraceptives or other hormonal contraceptives can lower testosterone levels as they interfere with the natural hormonal cycle. Certain medications, especially corticosteroids or antidepressants, can also reduce testosterone levels. Finally, an unhealthy lifestyle, such as lack of exercise, lack of sleep or an unbalanced diet, can affect testosterone production.

Testosterone

Thyroid-stimulating hormone, often abbreviated as TSH, is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland, a small gland in the brain. It plays a crucial role in the regulation of thyroid function. The main function of TSH is to control the production and release of thyroid hormones. Thyroid hormones, particularly thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), influence various aspects of metabolism, energy production and the body's heat balance.
Measuring the TSH level in the blood is an important diagnostic test to detect possible thyroid dysfunction. An elevated TSH level paired with low thyroid hormone levels may indicate hypothyroidism, while a low TSH level may indicate hyperthyroidism.




An increase in TSH levels may indicate that the thyroid gland is not producing enough hormones (hypothyroidism).




A drop in the TSH level may indicate that the thyroid gland is producing too much thyroid hormone (hyperthyroidism).

Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)

Looking at hormone values alone and without context to your individual situation is usually not helpful. It makes sense to discuss deviating values with your doctor. Many other aspects need to be taken into account for a final assessment, e.g: When in the cycle was the blood sample taken? How old are you? Are there any symptoms or complaints? Etc. This allows for a better interpretation and, as a result, tailor-made recommendations for action can be developed.
